3 Nobody...的反义疑问句

Nobody heard him sing, _________?

A did one   B did he C didn't they D did they

這道題选D。

但是为什么nobay wants to go there, does he?也是对的。

当这种复合不定代词做主语的时候,反义疑问句是they还是he?谢谢!

    章振邦教授在《新编英语语法》(第三版)指出:

如果陈述部分的主语为 everyone, someone, anyone, no one 等不定代词,其疑问部分的主语可用 he ,也可用 they 。例如:

Everyone knows his job, doesn't he ?

Everyone knows their job, don't they ?

  (上海外语教育出版社出版,p.857)

   所以,对于网友的试题,B did he 和 D did they 都可以作为正确答案。

   但是,以前的 TOEFL 等考试中,把这里的  D did they 判为错误。在现在很多考试中,可能会把 B did he 判为错误,把 D did they 作为正确答案。例如:

《刘毅英语语法宝典》(p.7) 指出:“Nobody came, did they ? [ nobody, none, no one, anybody, anyone, everybody, everyone 等不定代词做主语时,其反意疑问句通常用做主语]”

Nobody heard him sing, _________?

A did one   B did he   C didn't they  D did they

這道題选D。(√)

如果可以选B,那从逻辑上上讲,是否也可以说 did she?  别说这是搞笑,女权主义者说不定真会有这种相对应的要求。/ 但B的确是有人用的(或者说曾经有人用的), 不过,B给人的感觉是傲慢、批评、讽刺等这些特别的感觉。// 现在不太会有人用B

但是为什么Nobody wants to go there, does he? 也是对的。

当这种复合不定代词做主语的时候,反义疑问句是do they (√) 还是he? 谢谢!

不要老是怀疑专家都是傻蛋,人家会不知道么?出试卷的会故意害人么?(偶尔一两次考虑不周,不用计较,何况还有阅卷组最后把关呢。)也不要老以为自己学英语就是为了让人家来考自己,生怕被人家考住了。这是一种非常奇怪的“应考思维”。真正知道了BD的含义,其实也很难被考住。

Singular they

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Singular they is the use in English of the pronoun they or its inflected or derivative forms, themtheirtheirs, and themselves (or themself), as an epicene (gender-neutral) singular pronoun. It typically occurs with an unspecified antecedent, as in sentences such as:

  • "Somebody left their umbrella in the office. Could you please let them know where they can get it?"

  • "The patient should be told at the outset how much they will be required to pay."

  • "But a journalist should not be forced to reveal their sources."

The singular they emerged by the 14th century, about a century after plural they. It has been commonly employed in everyday English ever since then and has gained currency in official contexts. Singular they has been criticised since the mid-18th century by prescriptive commentators who consider it an error. Its continued use in modern standard English has become more common and formally accepted with the change toward gender-neutral language, though many style guides continue to describe it as colloquial and less appropriate in formal writing.

*****

In the early 21st century, use of singular they with known individuals emerged for people who do not identify as male or female, as in the following example:

  • "This is my friend, Jay. I met them at work. They are a talented artist."

They in this context was named Word of the Year for 2015 by the American Dialect Society, and for 2019 by Merriam-Webster. In 2020, the American Dialect Society also selected it as Word of the Decade for the 2010s.
