let stand five minutes 是省略说法。let stand + 时间段，已成为习语。意为“静置（平静放置）多长时间”。
实际是，这是 let 后面的宾语被省略。stand 是动词，原本作宾补。没有了宾语，也就不再是宾补了，作为固定词组记忆即可。补全为：
let the three cups of water stand for five minutes
让这三杯水静置五分钟。
又如：
Heat the mixture until hot about 2 minutes. Remove mixture from heat; cover, and let stand 30 minutes.
将混合物加热大约2分钟，移离火源，封盖并存放30分钟。
