主补还是状语？
1. Once a year, a race is held for old cars.
句中的 once a year 是状语还是主补？如果是状语，那它是什么状语？若放在句尾，能不能理解为主补？为什么？
2. The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour—much faster than its rivals.
句中的 much faster than its rivals 是什么成分？是主补、状语还是插入语？插入语有什么特点？为什么用破折号，能不用吗？能用逗号或者其他标点代替吗?
感觉好像被省略了主语的主补（表语），同时也很像被省略了的定语从句。
如：The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour. It is much faster than its rivals.
如：The winning car which is much faster than its rivals reached a speed of forty miles an hour.
如果 much faster than its rivals 是主补的话，位置可不可以像状语似的放在句首、句中、句尾呢？

1. Once a year, a race is held for old cars.
句中的 once a year 是状语，表示频率。此句也可说成：
A race is held for old cars once a year.
2. The winning car reached a speed of forty miles an hour—much faster than its rivals.
从句子的结构来看，句中的 much faster than its rivals 似乎应理解为同位语，用以补充说明a speed of forty miles an hour。但 than 后面接的是 its rivals（它的对手），而 speed 显然不宜与 rivals 作比较（两者非“同类项”）。通读全句，与 rivals 作比较的应该是 car 才对，也就是说，这个 much faster than its rivals 应该是说明 car 的，所以从这个角度来看，应该将 much faster than its rivals 理解为主语的定语才对。
