sit down in [into] one's armchair中的介词问题

没有看懂下面的正误句子及分析，请各位专家老师指点一下，谢谢！

误：He was so tired and sat down into his armchair and went to sleep.

正：He was so tired and sat down in his armchair and went to sleep.

析：英语习惯上说 sit down in one’s armchair，而不说 sit down into one’s armchair。

该正误分析是有依据的，比如《牛津英语用法指》第二版第269节就有如下观点和例句：

……在 sit down 和 arrive 之后，总是用 in 和 on。如：

He sat down in the armchair, and I sat down on the floor. 他坐在扶手椅上，我坐在地上。

（不能说：He sat down into...）

We arrive in Athens at midday. 我们中午到达雅典。

（不能说：We arrive into Athens...）
