最近看到这个句子，Whatever you do, do not dwell on what might have been, or dwell on what you ‘should’ have done!对what might have been的用法有疑惑，能直接作为宾语吗，总觉得缺少了个it；但是查阅了一些资料发现这个用法很普遍，如

1. You can’t prove a negative nor recreate history to show what might have been.

2. A lucky few begin the year hugging a piece of shiny hardware, while most wake up with empty hands and a longing for what might have been.

在T.S. Eliot"Burnt Norton"中也有

What might have been is an abstraction
