before作为副词单独用于一般过去时是否为不规范的用法

我查了很多字典，发现before作为副词一般只跟完成时连用：

I had met Professor Lown before

我以前见过劳恩教授。

《柯林斯高阶英汉双解学习词典》

即使用于一般现在也是作为定语使用的，如：

I think I saw her the week before.

或者表示其他含义，而不是表示“时间”的之前

The king entered with macebearers walking before.（表“地点”的之前）

所以，before作为副词（表时间）单独用于一般过去时是否为不规范的用法？

before作为副词一般跟完成时连用,也可以与其他时态连用。如：

I read the novel before. 我以前读过这本小说。/ Like you were saying before, too much freedom can be a burden. 就像你以前说的那样，过度的自由会成为一种负担。（摘自《外研社英汉多功能词典》p.182）

Before作为副词单独使用，表示在A点前的一个B点，这个A点可能是现在，也可能是过去的一个时间点

1. I had met Professor Lown before.

假设A点是 Professor Lown left our college, 则上面这句话中的before这个A点就成立了。

2. I saw her the week before.

假设A点是一个月前，则the week before就代表一个月前的那周，成立

3. I saw her before.

成立，A点可能是现在

4. I have seen her before.

成立，A点是现在

这些句子都是“纯种”的副词用法，也很正常

除了后两句不是太常用之外

词典肯定有定义，但不见得能收录各种句子
