这里不是没有限定词，而是被省略了，当然不省略也是可以的。《葛传槼英语惯用法词典》the词条中有这样的说明：

19.在重要职位的名称的前面往往省去“the”；例如：

He held the post of (the) headmaster for fifteen years.

He is (the) manager of a bank.

She is (the) editor of a magazine for women.

John, (the) king of England, signed magna Charta in 1215.
