be动词的时态问题

如题：

Do you know who （be）the first man to walk on the moon?

在提问者不知道此人是否已经去世的情况下，用什么时态比较好呢？

对说话人而言，人类第一次在月球行走是一个过去事件，当时那个人是谁用过去时是最保险的，即使此人在说话时还活着，你用过去时也没有错误，因为你关注的是当时的情形。
