怎样用when从句来表达同样的意思

我想写这么一句话，大意是本来想在会议现场找你们签字的，但是会议取消了，没有签成。

我知道这么写是对的： We would have got it signed if we had been at the event, but it didn't happen.

那么如果用when来写，该怎么写呢？是否是：

We were planning to get it signed when we were at the event, but it didn't happen.（但是这句话when修饰整个句子，意思已经不同了。）

或者是

Our plan was to get it signed when we are (还是were？) at the event, but it didn't happen.

这句话用when有什么好的表达方式呢？

I had intended to get it signed when I met you at the meeting, but it was cancelled.

I intended to have got it siggned when...
