双重否定语法题

His political analysis is not new, but it could hardly be _____.

B.more eloquent

C.more than eloquent

我选了B，但网上有的人给出的答案是D，我选择b的理由是，我觉得it could hardly be more eloquent表示他的分析简直不能更加有说服力了。希望能有老师可以分析一下B与D的差别。

less than

: not completely or not at all

She was less than happy with the results. [=she was not entirely happy or she was unhappy]

即less than 后接形容词，表示的是否定意义。

转折连词but提示，他的分析虽然不新颖，但还是很有说服力的（雄辩的）。半否定词hardly构成否定意义，还需要一个否定意义，才能构成双重否定，达到肯定的效果。所以只能选择less than eloquent.
