距离的英文表达问题（miles from/miles away from的区别）

下面两句的区别：

We are a thousand miles from the city.

We are a thousand miles away from the city.

away在这里是副词还是形容词？

We are a thousand miles from the city.

We are a thousand miles away from the city.

上面两句意思相同，即其中的 away 可以省略。如下面一句摘自牛津词典，away被放在括号内，表示可以省略：

My house is ten minutes (away) from the shops. 从我家到商业区有十分钟的路程。

这里的 away 是副词，不是形容词。
