网友很细心，且判断正确。这里，than 后面的不定式to hire 不要带to，应删去。

道理很简单，than 之前的谓语部分是 would rather + 原形，情态动词would 之后接原形动词是不需要to 的（情态动词后的不定式绝大部分都没有to，只有ought to，used to 等可以），rather 仅是个副词而已，故than 后的不定式同样不要to。
