关于 It is the first time for sb to do sth. 国内语法书和英语教学都未提及这个结构不符合英语表达习惯，因此多次出现在国内英语辅导书的例句中。

但《牛津词典》和《实用英语用法指南》都明确指出这种结构为错误。

《指南》则进一步指出，序数词+名词+不定式作定语，只有名词与不定式为逻辑主谓关系时才可以，其它如动宾关系、动状关系的不定式不能作被序数词修饰的名词的定语，而要改用that从句作定语。例如：

Tom is the first student to hand in the paper. (不定式与student 为主谓关系。正确）。

That was the first time for Tom to solve such a difficult math problem. (不定式与time为动状关系。错误。应改为定语从句）

That was the first time that Tom had solved such a difficult math problem.

至于序数词前不是定冠词，而是物主代词，即sb's first time，语料库例句显示，后接doing形式，远多于后接不定式。有老外认为后接不定式为错误。例如：

This/It is my first time visiting China. 语料库大量类似例句。老外认为结构正确。

This/It is my first time to visit China. 语料库仅有极个别例句。老外认为结构错误。

It is (was) the first time是主句，that引导的是定语从句，修饰先行词time，关系副词that可省略，从句的谓语常根据主句的时态用现在完成时或过去完成时。大多数语法家对此类句式都是这样分析的。据此可知，It is the first time for sb to do sth中的不定式复合结构也应分析为定语。

《牛津词典》time词条有：

This is the first time (that) I've been to London. This is the first time for me to go to London.

SWAN 的观点：

Is this the first time that you have stayed here? ( n o t . . . the first time for you to

stay here. Time is not the subject of stay.)

有个DAVID老外的观点：

The learner's dictionary is presenting various collocations at the place where that example appears. The point is that "first time" and "last time" collocate with "that"-clauses rather than with "for"-"to" infinitive clauses.

Thus, you should instead say, "This is the first time I've been to London." But it is often perfectly correct and natural to use "for"-"to" infinitivals with the noun "time" by itself -- e.g., "It's time for him to go to bed."
