无动词分句为啥可以省略主语和谓语? 如:

A: Hungry and exhausted, the climbers returned.

B: Confident of the justice of their cause, they agreed to put their case before the arbitration panel

C: One of the most popular tourist sites in Italy, Pompeii was viewed by nearly two million visitors last year.

D: Christmas then only days away, the family was pent up with excitement.

还是我理解的时候因果关系搞反了,是因为省略了动词才叫无动词分句。那是不是AB是非谓语,C是同位语,那D呢?

现代语法和传统语法对于分句的定义是不同的。你要理解无动词分句,首先要知道现代语法中分句的定义是什么。然后才是分句有哪些类型。按照现代语法,无动词分句并非省略了主语和谓语,而是该分句本来就没有动词。建议你重读你的书,注意分句的定义和分类。也许你的疑惑就没有了。

我觉得这些句子当然是对的,但英语母语者都不喜欢用,而我们的考试却使劲往里面考。

比如C与D,我想英文报刊更倾向于用

C. Being one of the most popular tourist sites in Italy, Pompeii was viewed by nearly two million visitors last year.

D. With Christmas then only days away, the family was pent up with excitement.


C加个being, D加个with 就清清楚楚了。
