1 from where 理解

FEMALE PROFESSOR: Well...it turns out that the magnetic shift had no impact on the return route of the blind mole rats after a short trip.

FEMALE PROFESSOR: They returned to the point where they had started from. But after a longer trip, they took a totally different route... one that led them 90 degrees east of the nest.

传统的语法书中说关系副词 where引导定语从句,where = in which, on which, at which

例如:This the city where I met Mary.这里的city 等于 in which.

They returned to the point where they had started from. They returned to the point at which they had started from. 但是语料库中没有 started from at the point 这种表达,只有start from the point 。

 看语法书中说when和where前也可以有介词,when前可以与from、since、after等引导定语从句,where前可以与from引导定从:

A. She went to America two years ago, since when I haven't heard from her any more.

B. She climbed up to the top of the hill, from where she could have a good view of the whole town.

    when = in/on/at/during + which

    where = in/on/at/through + which

    除了"在具体时间"、"在...期间",如果想表示"从...时候"、"在...时候之前"、"在...时候之后"、"到...时候为止"就只能用介词+when表示。

    除了"在那"、"通过哪",如果向表示"从...哪"只能用from+where。

所以 They returned to the point where they had started from. They returned to the point which they had started from.  以后遇到from where在大多数情况下,理解成from which就可以了?

(1)

from where 来自from there

from which 来自 from sth (比如it)

where的惯用

(2)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

They returned to the point where they had started from. =

1. They returned to the point.  2.  they had started from there.

They returned to the point which they had started from. =

1. They returned to the point.  2.  they had started from the place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

以后遇到from where在大多数情况下,理解成from which就可以了?

1a. I stood on the desk and saw the cow.

1b. I stood on the desk and saw the pencil.

from which

I stood on the desk, from which I saw the cow.

I stood on the desk, from which I saw the pencil.

I stood on the desk, on which I saw the cow. (X,

I stood on the desk, on which I saw the pencil.

I stood on the desk;I saw the cow / the pencil from it.

from where

I stood on the desk, from where I saw the cow.

I stood on the desk, from where I saw the pencil.

I stood on the desk;I saw the cow / the pencil from there.

where

I stood on the desk, where I saw the cow.

I stood on the desk, where I saw the pencil.

I stood on the desk;I saw the cow / the pencil there.

where= in which, on which, at which...

where I saw the cow.

where I saw the pencil.

I stood on the desk, where I saw the cow.

where= from which <--------变成了“观察视角”

I stood on the desk, where I saw the pencil.

这个句子不好,where不确定, 它到底是on which 还是from which?
