请问老师红字部分的句子如何理解？

There's been a lot of work on these machines since then.And these problems have been solved by and large.That's not to say the technology is perfect, it would be nice for example, to have a system that didn't take 6 months to produce an image.I suppose that's better than the year it took for the 1967 study to get results.

Microscopic algae just aren't as exciting I suppose.

1，两个take都是指花时间，相当于need；

2， the 1967 study 应该是个专有名词，应该斜体印刷之类;

3， that's better than the year 里的 the year 具有双重作用，既是it took 的先行词，有指代该年的机器工作情况

I suppose that's better than the year it took for the 1967 study to get results.

for the 1967 study是不定式to get results的逻辑主语，即前面的时间与之相比，更加令人满意。前面的代词that指代的应该是定语从句的内容也就是：能够有一个系统制作一幅图像所用的时间不到6个月。我认为这样（中心词应该是不到6个月的这个时间）比1967年研究所得结果使用的时间更加令人满意。
