比较级还是原级(three minutes early/earlier)

It was the busiest ten minutes of the activity. I arrived at our place three minutes ____(early).只能是比较级吗？

I think the problem with this office is that it is so small. we need a____ (large)one. 只能用比较级吗？比较级不应该是在原级large的基础上更大用large?而先有的句子里是small,要大点的不应该是large吗？

这种情况用原级最常见，也最普通。例如：

The ship arrived 30 minutes early. 船早到了30分钟。《现代英汉词典》

The bus arrived five minutes early. 公共汽车早到了五分钟。《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》

The bus was ten minutes early. 公共汽车早了十分钟。《朗文当代英语词典》

但也有用比较级的。美国现代英语语料库（VOVA）中就有这样的例句。例如：

She had walked into the office thirty minutes earlier.

It had come thirty-five minutes earlier.

She had come in a few minutes earlier to send a tag to Research about one of her cases.

▲如果之后带有than则只能用比较级。例如：

The first snow came a month earlier than usual.第一场雪比往年提早了一个月。《柯林斯高阶英汉双解词典》

以上两句，在实际语言中，使用原级没有错，而且对方都知道说话人要表达的意思。

但从逻辑上讲，用比较级更加合乎情理。

You are early~ you are three minutes early.以及 You are late~, you are three minutes late. ，但是第2个我认为只能用比较级。
