部分介词可以后接介词短语。例如from behind the door, from under the bed.  except就是这样的介词，可以后接介词短语。连词必须后接从句，这里无法补全主谓结构，所以不是连词。可以理解介词+介词结构是二个介词之间省略了一个名词或代词。例如：

from behind the door = from somewhere behind the door

except in some religious communities = except the case in some religious communities

其实，知道有些介词可以后接介词短语，留心这些介词，能理解，会应用就足够了，没有必要细扣语法成分。
