We all as creatures are behaving that way, to give greater value to an immediate reward as opposed to what is delayed.

2. to give greater value to an immediate reward as opposed to what is delayed:整个动词不定式短语,是that way 的定语,描述that way 的内容。

也就是说,as opposed to what is delayed 中,as是连词,之后省略了is,即:as is opposed to what is delayed,as 指代前文的an immediate reward。

as opposed to what is delayed:它的字面意思是:“与延迟的回报对照/不同/截然相反”;引申为“而不是”。

除了 as is opposed 以外,常见的有:

as seen from above

as told before 正如前述

as shown above 正如上面显示的那样

as pointed out 正如已经指出的(那样)

as already shown 如已显示(那样)
