1、I was just traveling through，got talking with this American，and pretty soon he invited me home for dinner—amazing.

张道真《英语常用动词用法词典》get词条中有如下解释：
▲间或跟现在分词表示“开始......起来”：
It's half past eight; let's get going. 已经八点半了，咱们干起来吧。
We got talking, and did not notice the time. 我们谈了起来，时间过去也没注意了。
They went in and got chatting together. 他们走进去，开始攀谈起来。

get talking with不是固定搭配，而是 get doing 和 talk with ...(与 ...... 交谈)结合的用法。
