我觉得，这个题目仍然使用teaching，不用to teach。因为句子的意思已经表明：“教孩子学习”这个事情已经做了，不强调“目的性”，从时态可以判断。

【翻译】这个男孩被关在卧室里，度过了48小时。

这个句子完全正确。是的，shut 是过去分词，shut up 意思是“被关起来”。

The boy spent 48 hours 为“主谓宾结构”；shut up in his bedroom 是过去分词作状语，意为“在被关在卧室的情况下”，看作“方式状语”或“伴随状语”均可，修饰谓语动词spent，说明他度过这48小时的“方式或伴随情况”。又如：

The leader entered the building, accompanied by a group of followers.（方式或伴随状语）那位领导在一群随从人员的陪同下进了大楼。
