这种单词合成法，在英语中比较少见：名词 + 动词 = 动词（名词被看作后面动词的方式或手段）。有三种写法：两个单词分开water cool（水冷却）；两个单词合在一起handwrite（手写）；两个单词加连字符body-search（搜身）。例如：
The motorbicycle is water cooled.
这辆摩托车是水冷的。
We know the eagle could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her.
我们知道这鹰永远不会飞，所以主管叫我戴手套训练它。
Allow them to handwrite recommendations in their native language.
应该允许他们用自己的语言手写推荐信。

“名词+search”构成的合词词语（通常为动词，有时为名词）主要有 soul-search, heart-search, job-search, body-search, strip-search 等。如：
(1) After much heart-searching they decided to separate. 他们考虑再三之后，决定分开。
(2) Foreign journalists were body-searched by airport police. 外国记者被机场警察搜身。
(3) Mr Porter was subjected to a degrading strip-search. 波特先生被迫接受有辱人格的裸身搜查。
(4) My year was really spent doing a lot of soul-searching and trying to find out what had gone wrong in my life. 这一年来，我真的进行了许多深刻的反思，努力地找出自己的生活中到底哪里出了问题。
