I rememberd panic setting in as early as age eight, at the prospect of a perpetual uncertainty about everthing in life, from food to clothes to education. I knew that the life I was living couldn't ba normal. I just wasn't sure what it was that was wrong with the tiny microcosm I was born into.

为什么空格部分要填 what，这是什么强调结构?

假设有这样一个句子：

Something was wrong with the tiny microcosm I was born into.

现在用强调句型强调主语，则得到：

It was something that was wrong with the tiny microcosm I was born into.

然后就这个强调句的something提问，则得到特殊疑问句：

What was it that was wrong with the tinh microcosm I was born into?

当这个特殊疑问句被用作间接问句（即名词性从句）时，则要去倒装、去问号：

I didn't know what it was that was wrong with the tinh microcosm I was born into.

I just wasn't sure what it was that was wrong with the tinh microcosm I was born into.
