由于句中加入了定语成分或其他成分，使得原句的结构表面看起来不合常理。其实，简化或者添加省略的成分后，就可以搞清楚。例如：

1. 因省略成分，在can 之后接了to do：

I'm new here. Don't worry. I'll do what I can to help you.

本句其实是I'll do what I can do to help you. 的省略说法，to help you 作目的状语。

2. 因插入定语从句，在介词之后接了to do：

This is the best way we think of to help you.

we think of是the best way的定语从句，去掉后则是：This is the best way to help you.

3. 因句式变化（主动语态变被动语态），导致of 后面接to do：
