如何区分about做副词和介词的用法

about做副词和介词时都有“四处”的意思，问题是：如何知道什么时候是介词或者副词？这似乎会直接影响后面接词语的用法。

比如strew about（about在这里是介词）lie about(about在这里是副词)。如果是介词，后面好像就不应该跟介词，而是副词时就可以。牛津的例句：
The papers were strewn about the room（这里后面没有跟in the room）

Her books were lying about on the floor.（这里后面没有跟the floor）

第一句可加in，about作副词；第二句可去掉on，about作介词。又如：

A bee flew about in the room.一只蜜蜂在房间里飞来飞去。《现代汉英综合大词典》

A dozen cartons of books had been overturned and strewn about the floor.十几个装书的纸箱都被倒空，乱扔了一地。《柯林斯高阶英汉双解词典》
