句中的then不是连词。当then用作副词表示“之后，然后”时，前面可以加and，但在口语或非正式文体中常被省略。如：

For a minute he looked uncertain, and then recovered his composure.有一小会儿他看上去有些迟疑不定，之后又恢复了镇定。

Burke cast a cursory glance at the menu, then flapped it shut.伯克匆匆地瞥了一眼菜单，然后啪地合上了。

▲ then“那么，则”与条件句连用不加and；与相当于条件的句子连用，通常也多不加and。第一部分描述可能的情况，第二部分引入结果。如：

If it's not on the table then it’ll be in the drawer. 要是不在桌子上, 那就在抽屉里。
