whatever the result后省略的是is还是it is

对于下面这句，有人认为在 whatever the result 后省略了 is，有人认为省略了 it is。

请问哪个说法是对的？

The final between the teams, whatever the result, is splendid.

省略的是 is。whatever 引导从句，必须在从句中作成分。result 为主语，系表结构，省略了is，whatever 是表语。如果再加上 it，则 whatever 无成分可做。实词不做成分，一定是错误的！

另外，即使没有定冠词 the, 加 it is 也是错误的。因为 it 指代 final，不能说 fanal is a result, 这是逻辑错误。得加上 it may have。如果这样的话，动词就不可能省略，也就不会有这个问题了。

同意曹老师分析。Whatever在引导让步状语从句时，如果从句是系表结构，就可以省略从句中的be动词。这也是近年高考所涉及到的一个难点。
