定语从句中的短语动词介词提前的问题
He is the waiter to whom I spoke yesterday.
本句中 speak to 的 to 提前到关系代词前。
I know the boy whom you are looking for.
在本句中 look for 中的 for 为什么不提前到 whom 前面呢？

在这类句式中，介词提前或不提前都可以，其基本区别是：若提前显得更正式一些。另外，若提前介词，则紧跟在介词后的关系代词whom不能换成who；若不提前介词，则用作宾语的关系代词whom也可换成who。比较：
正：He is the waiter to whom I spoke yesterday.（正式）
正：He is the waiter whom I spoke to yesterday.（普通）
正：He is the waiter who I spoke to yesterday.（非正式）
正：I know the boy for whom you are looking.（正式）
正：I know the boy whom you are looking for.（普通）
正：I know the boy who you are looking for.（非正式）

《牛津英语用法指南》第三版第452.6节指出：“很多常用的状语词组由介词 + 名词短语组成（例如：with great patience 以极大耐心 ， in a temper 发脾气）。在这种情况下，介词要与名词紧密相连，且尽量靠近名词；介词通常不能移到句末。I admired the patience with which she spoke . 她说话极有耐心，我很钦佩。（不能说：... the patience she spoke with .）”
