such as they are插在句中常用逗号隔开：

Young people, such as they are, are promising.年轻人虽没什么了不起，但他们是很有前途（希望）的。

▲such as they are貌似定语，实为状语。such as it is [they are]是习语，意为“虽然不怎么好; 尽管没有什么了不起”，常用作让步状语。又如：

We can go in my car, such as it is.我们可以坐我的车去, 虽然我的车子不太好。《简明英汉词典》《简明英汉词典》

He told his father his grades, such as they were.他把自己的成绩告诉父亲，虽然成绩谈不上好。《21世纪英汉汉英双向词典》
