host前为何不加冠词

我们老师讲的 be / play host to sb / sth, 招待某人 / 成为.....的东道主。我有个疑问，host 是名词且可数（词典上没标是不是可数，但是有复数形式），为什么这里不加 the 呢？

host虽然为可数名词，但其作为【主人】之意构成的几个搭配都是不带冠词的，但可有复数：

be host at / act as host to

Fred was host at the Old Boys’ dinner.

He acted as host to his father’s friends.

Last night we were hosts to some friends.

▲ 但是若其前面带定语或本身作定语或不做【主人】之意，则应有冠词：

be a host in oneself 能以一当十

Don’t worry about the party. He can be ahost in himself. 别担心晚会（没人筹办），他一人能干几个人的活。

He was a perfect/welcoming host. 他十分热情好客。

The host country said that… 主办国说……
