stand silent 与 stand silently 哪个对
同意胡老师的分析，同时感觉好题老师的分析也有道理。我在吕志士、袁锡兴主编的《英语惯用法大词典》中查到 stand 的此类用法被分析为系动词的用法。

exist independent 还是 exist independently
你的句子用副词当然也完全可以（用副词修饰动词）：Neither can exist independently of the other.但用形容词也可以，可以理解为：Neither (that is) independent of the other can exist.

when 的用法疑问
这个when可以理解为表示让步（意思是“虽然”）：He doesn't want to buy it when he has enough money.他虽然有足够的钱，但他不想买它。关于when表示“虽然”的用法，一般的词典都有介绍。
