be derived from 中 derive是 to take or get (something) from (something else)（从…中）得到，获得 的意思，是及物动词。如：The river derives its name from a Native American tribe.也即：The river‘s name is derived from a Native American tribe.本质上就是主动和被动的区别。derive from sth中，derive表示to have something as a source : to come from something起源于；来自；从…衍生出，是不及物动词，from+宾语作状语修饰derive，表示起源的地点。他们在中文里都表示起源于的意思，可以互换。

less of a problem，less是代词，表示很少，较少，后接of a problem表示这个problem不严重，程度很轻； than比较级，现在假设problem有量级，也就是程度大小，比如洪水和海啸对人都是problem，但是显而易见海啸的problem更大，现在回到你的问题其实就是 a problem to be poor 与 a problem to be dishonest 在problem这个范畴里，to be poor程度轻一点，换言之就是不诚实比贫穷跟恶劣。
