more dumplinig and less soup这个结构让我想到一些与比较概念相关的现象,即more noun and less noun / more noun than noun,也许有一些共性。例如:So if you want the holidays to be more friend and less foe, be health conscious to be happy! I have been more poet and less social philosopher than people generally seem to believe. By that standard comics are more book than magazine.I think that makes me more a poet than an actor, at heart. It’s more of a guess than an estimate.上述例子中有些可数名词以词干形式出现,可能有两点原因:1. 突出对比或视为成对,可能类似我们常见的father and son、husband and wife等;2. 突出事物的属性(quality),因此向不可数名词或形容词的用法偏移。文章中说的是soup dumplings,即soup和dumpling构成了小笼包的一对重要特征,二者进行比较,dumpling的成分特征更多一些(more dumpling-like)。可能有些异想天开,仅供参考。

基于《剑桥英语语法》的视角,一小部分副词可以有自己的补足语,见书中第58页:However, only a very small number of adverbs license complements, as in independently of such considerations.,其中of 介词短语就是副词independently的补足语。网友的句子对应书中第1262页的Indirect and matrix-licensed non-finite complements下Infinitivals indirectly licensed by too, enough, sufficient, sufficiently的内容。按照书中的思路分析,网友的句子中,to ask her to luncheon是间接补足语(indirect complement)。enough允准to ask her to luncheon,但to ask her to luncheon依赖于well enough中的中心词well,而不是直接依赖于修饰well的enough。总结:to ask her to luncheon是补足语——间接补足语。

重点在于they think (that) they have been reading,即学生认为自己读了书,但并不算真正地读书。根据上下文提到了... think that they read推测,这里是相似的语义。If I ask them some questions regarding the book. I find that they will only repeat something (定从 that somebody else has said about < 介词宾语 what融合型关系代词 they think that they have been reading> ).野人献曝,聊供参考。

词汇单位(lexical unit),也称词项(lexical item),可能不同语法框架下有不同解释。不过感觉wikipedia上的解释差不多够用了。... a lexical item is a single word, a part of a word, or a chain of words that forms the basic elements of a language's lexicon (≈ vocabulary). Lexical items can be generally understood to convey a single meaning, much as a lexeme, but are not limited to single words.我做简单化的理解,习得语言的时候把一些词当作一个单位来记忆的,这些词就是多词的词汇单位。怎么理解当做一个单位?比如send ... out into ...,母语者可能脑海里直接想到send ... out into ...,然后加上具体要说明的send的宾语和into的宾语就可以。母语者可能不会想,先send,send哪儿去?哦,out。然后……此外,out、into算是闭合词类,也更容易和动词组成词汇单位吧。野人献曝,聊供参考。
