▲两者可互换：in (the) face of 的用法如下：

2. in opposition to；inspite of 反对；不顾

Talking continued even in the face of the teacher's command to stop. 纵然老师已下令停止谈话，但有人还是讲个不停。

▲时至今日，仍然有许多专业词典均没有in face of 的例句提供，甚至是牛津及朗文。但明确标注in（the）face of的也有不少, 如罗老师提供的，还有上教版的《学生英汉词典》95年版p378，《英华大词典》；最有说服力的是由著名语言学家夸克等主编的CGEL。可以肯定的是，带定冠词几乎总是无可挑剔的。并且以前人们似乎并不认可in face of 的使用，比如1985年我国的高考题：

其所提供的标准答案为C. 实际上现在看来这对于选A 的考生有欠公允。
