请问下面的句式有什么不同？

1. explain why + 从句

2. explain that + 从句

前者解释原因，后者说明情况。前者重在“解释”，后者重在“说明”。例如：

He explained why he had come late. 他解释了自己迟到的原因。（他解释了自己为何迟到。）

He explained that he had come late. 他说明了自己迟到的情况。

1. explain why + 从句：用于解释某事发生的原因。注意体会：

Can you explain why this window is broken? 这窗户怎么破的你能讲讲吗？

He made up a story to explain why he was absent. 他编造了一个故事为他的缺席辩解。

He invented a story to explain why he was late. 他胡编了一个理由来说明自己为什么迟到。

The police asked me to explain why I hadn’t reported the accident sooner. 警方要我解释为什么没有及时报告这宗事故。
