than any other后面接复数名词算错吗

在不少地方看到过：than any other 后面接的名词只能用单数形式，在网上查了一下，也有不同的说法。在教材上也有这样一句，下面句子中than any other 后面的名词 country 可以用复数吗？请明确地说明，这里用复数算不算错？

For example, it can be proved thatChinahas more people than any other country in the world. 例如，可以证明中国人口比世界上任何其他国家的人口都要多。

句子来源：高中英语教材人教版必修二Unit 1。

▲than any other后接名词时通常用单数形式，很少用复数。如：

Swallows fly faster than any other bird. 燕子飞得比其他鸟要快。

He swims faster than any other student in his class. 他比班上的其他任何学生都游得快。

More heat is lost through the head than any other part of the body. 从头部散发的热量比身体的其他任何部位都多。

▲但是不是用复数就算错呢？也不能这么绝对。如：

Above all else (=more than any other things) she was seeking love. (朗文当代高级英语词典)

I like cats best because they are cuter than any other animals. (湘教版初中英语教材八年级上p 79)

同意陈老师的看法。2008年7月第1版《外研社英汉多功能词典》指出：I like dogs better than any other animal(s). 我喜欢狗胜于其他任何动物。（在这种结构的句子中animal一般用单数，（（口））也可用复数）（第1486页）

教材的句子中than any other 后面的名词 country 最好用单数，但是用复数也不能算错误。
