同意黎老师的分析。用于形容词和副词比较级前的“the”并不是定冠词而是程度副词，通常用于以下几种情况。

1. 用于一般句式，强调程度（通常带有表示原因或条件的短语或从句）。如：

If you start now, you will be back the sooner.  如果你现在动身, 就能回来得更早一些。

Give me a hug, and I will feel the better. 给我一个拥抱，我会感觉更好些。

2. 用于none the less“依然”、none the more“依旧，仍然”、none the wiser“还是不明白”、all the more“更加，越发”、all the better“反而更好，更加”、all the worse“更糟”等固定短语中。如：

He is none the wiser for all his experience. 尽管他有那么多经验，他还是不明白。

The girl admired him all the more.  这个女孩越发钦佩他。 

3. by far用于比较级时，通常放在后面。若放在比较级前，应在比较级前加“the”，但在带有“than”的句式中常不用the。如：

It's by far the quicker to go by train. 坐火车去要快多了。

She is cleverer by far than her boss. ( cleverer by far = by far cleverer)她比她的上司要聪明得多。

注：*She is by far the cleverer than her boss．(此句式颇有争议)

4. 用于“...the+比较级+of the two...”的句式中。如：

He is the taller of the two brothers. 他是两兄弟中较高的那个。

5. 用于The more…, the more…“越......，越......”的句式中。如：

The busier he is, the happier he will feel. 他越忙就越感到快乐。
