我是这样理解的。时间+ into sth 表示时间点，不是段，例如：ten minutes into the match =ten minutes after the match began. 比赛开始了10分钟的时候。如果你想表达在比赛开始后的10分钟这个时间段内，需要在时间前加介词in或within. 请看外刊例句：

一开始看到这个into的时候（即into+活动/时间等），觉得有点奇怪。查完词典，还是有点似懂非懂。后来采用“可以把活动和时间看成空间”的思路，感觉理顺一些了。在此分享一下，不过表达得很不严谨，仅供参考。

into的基本义是to the inside of something，即进到某个东西的内部。利用这个基本义可以窥探into+活动/时间的含义。

先说一个相对好理解的表达：three meters into the cave，即进到山洞三米处，cave是一个空间（像容器），three meters表示从洞口往里走的距离（像路径），最终的位置是朝着山洞里面的行进方向，距离洞口三米。画一个简陋的图式：

时间相对于空间来说更为抽象，许多时候我们都是用空间方位的词来描述时间，这里我们把时间看作一个空间，ten years（简化起见忽略more than）则是时间上的距离，画一个类似的简陋图式：

再举几个经济学人的例子做一下类比：

more than ten years修饰后面的介词短语，into+时间可以直接理解为to，翻译的时候一般都是翻译直到…或者进入…，你这个句子翻译为“直到”就行，不用扣中文翻译
