be ashamed to do 与 be ashamed of doing 的区别

be ashamed to do：表示对要做事感到羞愧。

I’d be ashamed to take his money. 我不好意思拿他的钱。

He was ashamed to admit his fault. 他对要承认过错感到羞愧。

He knew that it was his fault but he was ashamed to admit his mistake. 他知道这是他的错，但又羞于承认。

be ashamed of doing：表示对做过的事或已存在的状态感到羞愧。

Don’t be ashamed of being poor. 你不要因贫穷而感耻辱。

He was ashamed of admitting his fault. 他因为承认了过错而感到羞愧。

I am ashamed of having done so little for my country. 由于对国家做的事太少, 我感到惭愧。

【1】to do 表示“将要去做”，所以如果想要表达“对将要做的事情感到羞愧/惭愧”就使用be ashamed to do

Women are often ashamed to admit they are being abused.

妇女对受到的侵犯常常羞于承认。

I am ashamed to say that I lied to her.我真不好意思说我向她撒了谎。

【2】doing表示“已经做”或者“正在做”，所以如果想要表达“对正常做的事情或者已经做的事情感到羞愧/惭愧”就使用be ashamed of doing

She was deeply ashamed of doing that at the party.

她对自己在聚会上做那事情深感羞愧。

Tom was ashamed of telling a lie.汤姆对撒谎感到羞愧。
