China Daily中疑似错误的词（peek可用作及物动词吗）

Peter Millward, a British musician, has regularly visited Vibe since its inception in 2018. He always enjoys dropping by and peeking his head into the shop to see who is there for a lively chat.

摘自9月份《中国日报》英语版，我觉得句中的peeking是不正确的，seek是不及物动词。如果不正确，该如何更改？

这是美式用法，词典里没有，一本介绍美语的书上有：

正如网友所言，几部主流词典都把peek处理为不及物动词。

在The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language中对peep一词这样处理：

v. tr. To cause to emerge or become partly visible: He peeped his head through the door.
