happen to sb 是固定搭配，总是用 to 而不用 on，其意为“某事（多指不好的事）发生在某人身上”。又如：

I dread to think what has happened to him. 我害怕去想他出了什么事。

Nobody will ever know what happened to her. 谁都不会知道她出了什么事。

He is truly outraged about what’s happened to him. 这一遭遇实在让他满腔愤慨。

She fell to brooding about what had happened to her. 她开始沉思默想自己的遭遇。

Nobody really minded much about what happened to them. 没人真正在意他们的遭遇。

Did you hear what happened to Jamie last night? 你听说昨天晚上杰米出什么事了吗？

If anything should happen to me, please give this letter to my wife. 万一我有什么不测，请把这封信交给我妻子。

其中的 sb 有时也可以换成 sth。如：
