What a relief it was when the boulders suddenly disappeared, giving way to a stretch of plain where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.
请问前半句（逗号以前）如何进行语法分析？
我直觉是这句话应该写成，what a relief it was that the boulders suddenly disappeared. it 是形式主语，指代后面的 that 从句，从句里主语是 the boulders, 谓语 disappeared。 (这个从句是个什么从句？主语从句？）
但如果是原文中when引导的从句，我就不太明白了，也是主语从句？主语the boulders, 谓语 disappeared, when 是副词充当时间状语？
表述有点零乱，请老师帮忙分析一下，谢谢！

【2】从句:when the boulders suddenly disappeared,giving way to a stretch of plain where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.当巨石突然消失不见，取而代之的是一片平原,唯一的障碍是一簇簇的矮树丛/灌木丛。
备注(1):what a relief it was为what引导名词性感叹分句作主句。类似于It was a great relief(真是松了了一口气)
备注(2):when the boulders...为从属连词引导时间状语从句作(主句的)时间状语。
备注(3): giving way to...为现在分词作结果状语,因为巨石挡住/遮住了平原，所以巨石消失导致平原出现的结果。
备注(4):where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.为关系副词where引导定语从句修饰名词a stretch of plain并在定语从句作地点状语。
备注(5):what a relief it was类似于It was a great relief(真是松了了一口气)，如果把它变成一个感叹句就是What a (great) relief it was!再把它变成名词性感叹分句作主句就是What a (great) relief it was.
