What a relief it was when the boulders suddenly disappeared, giving way to a stretch of plain where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.
我直觉是这句话应该写成,what a relief it was that the boulders suddenly disappeared. it 是形式主语,指代后面的 that 从句,从句里主语是 the boulders, 谓语 disappeared。
What a relief it was这真是让人松了一口气。
【2】从句:when the boulders suddenly disappeared, giving way to a stretch of plain where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.
(1):what a relief it was为what引导名词性感叹分句作主句。类似于It was a great relief(真是松了了一口气)
备注(2):when the boulders...
备注(3): giving way to...
(4):where the only obstacles are clumps of bushes.
(5):what a relief it was类似于It was a great relief(真是松了了一口气),如果把它变成一个感叹句就是What a (great) relief it was! What a (great) relief it was.
