be able to可以和feel,hear,see,smell,taste连用吗?
3:used with the verbs 'feel','hear','see','smell','taste'
2. Sinclair:can和could可以和see,hear,smell之类的动词连用。
I hear a phone ringing.
正:I can hear a phone ringing.
I can see a ship.比I am able to see a ship. Can you knit?比Are you able to knit?
4. L.G.Alexander:“can+动词”表示天生的能力。表示天生的能力时,can和am/is/are able to通常可以互换,但able to用得较少。不过,谈到说话时正在发生的事时,一般不用am/is/are able to。
1)blind:not able to see
2)deaf: unable to hear anything or unable to hear very well
1)He isn't able /is unable to see/hear.(对比He can't see/hear.)
2)John wasn't able/was unable to see/hear when he was ten years old.(对比John couldn't see/hear when he was ten years old.)
3)The woman hasn't been able/has been unable to see/hear for twenty years.(对比The woman can't see/hear for twenty years.)
