I was always timid (羞怯的). Being new to the school made me even shyer, so it was surprising I’d chat to anyone around me. Now I was paying the price—to write a five-age essay on “Why I Should Not Talk in Class”. That would take all night!

查有关资料，school 前面带定冠词（即 the school），指具体的房子或建筑物；school 前面不带定冠词（即 school），则表示学校的环境。但这里显然是指对学校环境陌生，而不是对房子或建筑物陌生，对吧？但为什么加上了定冠词呢？

Being new to the school【主语】// made【谓语动词】// me 【宾语】// even shyer【宾语补足语】//

参考译文:刚到这所学校使我更加害羞。

备注(1):Being new to the school 为动名词作主语，表示“刚到这所学校”the school表示特指这所学校。不加the表示上学。

备注(2):像“school,church, hospital”地点场所名词，加the表(名词)的地点含义，不加the表(名词)功能含义。

【1】go to the school 去学校【2】go to school 去上学

【1】go to the hospital 去医院【2】go to hospital去看病

【1】go to the church 去教堂【2】go to hospital去做礼拜
