...Nielsen always felt he should be doing comedy but his good looks and distinguished voice kept him busy in dramatic roles. It wasn't until 1980 -- 32 years into his career -- that he landed the role it would seem he was made for in Airplane ! That movie led him into the second half of his career...

请问：

【一】上面句子中对年份1980进行补充说明的32 years into his career是什么意思和什么用法？

【二】上面句子中it would seem he was made for in Airplane在整个句中是否是做role的定语从句(省略关系代词which，which在定语从句中作介词for的宾语)？冒昧地问老师这是否是嵌入式定语从句？

接受曹老师的建议，谈一下自己对网友问题的理解。

1 介词短语32 years into his career，可以视为1980意义上的同位语，介词into牛津释义为，to a point during a period of time（到达一段时间的某一点），32 years可以理解为介词into的程度状语，即，到达他事业生涯第32年的那个点，也就是说，1980年是他事业生涯的第32年。此外，薄冰语法提及，“有时同位语在形式上并不与其所说的词语同位，但在意义上却是同位的。”

如：The number reached 22 million in the first half of this year,up 16 percent from a year ago.

所以，应该可以这样，He did not land the role until 1980/until 32 years into his career.

2 理解为嵌入式定语从句。 he landed the role （which/that) it would seem he was made for in Airplane ，关系代词which/that在定语从句中作介词for的宾语，被省略。而定语从句which he was made for作it would seem的表语从句，是其内嵌部分，即为内嵌句，而本身是个定语从句，所以为嵌入式定语从句，而定语从句的关系词需要移位于所修饰的先行词后，故而which/that提前，又因作宾语而被省略。语意上it would seem应该也有类似表达观点，看法的意思。

谢邀。其实总体看法和小王同学差不多，这里稍微补充下。

1. 32 years into his career看作同位语或者补充语也好，意义上与1980是同位的，也就是他从事演绎事业达32年之际。into的用法可能有点不那么好理解，我们可以把事情/活动想象成一个空间，into就是进到这个空间里，32 years就是到了这个空间32年的地方——其实时间概念也是通过空间概念来理解的（例如before / after / in / into等介词用于时间），因为时间比空间更抽象，比如我们常见的late into the night。再举一个例子：The vessel lost contact nearly two hours into its dive on Sunday.

2.句子的主干是he landed the role in Airplane，即in Airplane不在定语从句所辖范围。定语从句it would seem he was made for本身是一个主从复合句，为嵌入式定语从句，关系代词做for的宾语，在这里省略了。

个人意见，仅供参考。
