add sth与add to sth都经常翻译成“增加”，但有区别：
(1) add sth通常是指在原有基础上“增加”新的东西或更多的东西(多用于具体的事物)：
Add a little more salt and pepper. 再多加一点盐和胡椒粉。
The fire is going out; will you add some wood? 火快熄了，请你加些木柴好吗?
(2) add to 通常是指使某事物在原有基础上变得“更大”“更好”“更强”等(多用于抽象的事物)：
