the number of的用法

各位老师好，关于the number of的用法最近遇到一道题：

_______________ (A number, The number) of the money we need is too great.

题目要求是括号里的两个短语2选1。但是我所了解到的是a number of和the number of后面都是加复数名词，但是money

是不可数名词啊，那么这个题出的是否有问题呢？谢谢！

你质疑的有道理，既然money不可数，就无法用number 来衡量，所以如果改用amount就没问题了。

【1】the number of +限定词+可数名词复数：某物/某人的数量/数目
