quite 和 rather(相当)可以互换使用吗

老师好！请问 quite 和 rather 表示“相当”的意思时可以互换使用吗？

如果修饰可分等级（即可以有比较级）的形容词或者副词(如 good, hot, well 等)，可以用 quite, 也可以用 rather，但是在语义上有差别：quite 降低了形容词和副词原级的程度；rather 提高了形容词或副词原级的程度。

quite 可以修饰不可分等级（即没有比较级）的形容词或者副词（如 right, perfect, impossible, impossibly 等），在这种情况下，quite 通常表示“完全”“十分”“很”的意思。 rather没有这种用法。

【一】quite通常用于表达积极的内容，可以与名词动词形容词搭配使用。与不定冠词连用时，通常是在冠词a/an前面。

【1】I quite agree with you

【2】I didn’t expect to get this reward. It was quite a surprise.

【3】I’m surprised you haven’t heard of him. He’s quite famous.

quite通常是在冠词a/an前面。(quite a/an+形容词+名词)

It is quite an interesting book.

This is quite an old house

That is quite a long way

【二】rather则表达消极的内容。通常与形容词搭配使用。与不定冠词连用时，可以在冠词a/an前面或者后面。

It’s rather cold. We’d better not go to the park today.

放在冠词a/an前面或者后面。(rather a/an+形容词+名词或者a+rather +形容词+名词)

This is a rather interesting book.

That is rather an interesting book.
