关于as引导的比较状语从句

He can operate the machine as well as I do.

这里，为什么用do？do后边不缺成分吗？感觉这里又很像定语从句中的as？这里as是比较状语从句中的连词吗？该如何解释？

He can operate the machine as well as I do.

=He can operate the machine as well as I (can operate the machine).

你等号后面的句子在as well as I 后面是不能有 can 的，否则意思就会有所变化（即就不能划等号了）。我的理解是：

He can operate the machine as well as I do.

=He can operate the machine as well as I (operate the machine).

同样，在你的“备注(1)”中，“do=can operate the machine”中的can也应该去掉。注意：do 用于替代“动词原形”，但不用于替代“can+动词原形”。

备注(1)：do为替代词用法，替代和主句谓语相同内容，即do=can operate the machine。
