2 at the beginning后面不加of短语也是对的吗

我看一本资料书上写的in/at/from the beginning表示“起初”的意思。但是感觉不加of的时候in the beginning是最常见的。请问确实可以用at the beginning不加of短语表示“最初”的含义吗？

我理解，at the beginning of 属于比较常见正规的用法，如果是考试尽量这样用。如牛津词典，就把这个短语写为：at the beginning of. 不接of 独立使用时更多用in the beginning 或at the start. 但可能是随着语言的发展，at the beginning后不接of的用法也越来越多了。请看剑桥词典的例句：
